A newly formed East Coast Organic Milk Co-operative, which includes many dairy producers as well as Mike Main, an agrologist based in Truro, are trying to bring Organic Milk to the grocery shelves of Atlantic Canada.
Mike is trying to help smaller producers overcome traditional obstacles such as the high cost of processing. Main is determined: “We’re convinced there’s a way to do it. Our goal would be to see milk on the market before Christmas.”
The higher demand for local organic food might make it a reality and similar farmer’s co-operative based in Guelph, is now building its own processing plant.
