Local, fresh, seasonal food

Local, fresh, seasonal food

“Peggy’s Cove is an iconic Nova Scotian landmark, and the rode to Peggy’s Cove demonstrates the provinces diversity – small fishing villages, large waterfront cottages, hamlets centred around boat launches and churches, and isolated homes standing resolute against the North Atlantic.  The Peggy’s Cove road travels 60km of coastline, housing communities with low rates of high school graduation, to affluent gated communities. Despite the diversity in age, education, income, and lifestyles, the one thing that connects everyone here is a history of fishing and farming along Canada’s eastern coastline.  Yet, only one market serves this route full time offering local, fresh, seasonal food.  Is this a healthy, just, sustainable food supply for communities whose past is rooted in local food? Make food part of the conversation as these communities see proposals for increased housing and infrastructure upgrades – tell politicians to put local food back on the urban planning menu!”- Andrew Hamilton
