Can Nova Scotian's afford to Eat Healthy? - Report on 2010 Participatory Food Costing

Findings from the 2010 Nova Scotia Participatory Food Costing project.

Every day thousands of Canadians struggle to have enough nutritious and safe food to feed themselves and their families. National surveys show that at least 8% of Canadians cannot afford to buy enough healthy and safe foods to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life – this is known as food insecurity. Most often, when people are food insecure it is because their incomes are too low to adequately cover the cost of healthy foods and other basic needs.
